Phil Glenn is the criminal defense attorney primarily responsible for handling criminal cases in Monroe County for the Law Offices of Robert David Malove. Phil was born and raised in a small town in the mountains of North Carolina. Following high school, Phil completed his undergraduate studies at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, and graduated with honors from Washington & Lee University School of Law in Lexington, Virginia. Phil graduated at the top of his law school class and also was elected editor of the Law Review at Washington & Lee. Additionally, while in law school, Phil dedicated many extra-curricular hours to a legal clinic focused on helping folks who had been convicted of murder and had been sentenced to death in Virginia. Phil’s experiences working with people who had been sentenced to Death Row led him to change his intended career path from corporate law to representing those whose lives have been upended due to criminal charges brought against them by the State.
Phil began his legal career as an Assistant Public Defender in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he worked for approximately 6 years. As an Assistant Public Defender, Phil quickly rose through the misdemeanor and felony divisions and soon joined the “serious crimes” division, in which he was primarily responsible for cases where the defendants were facing mandatory life in prison without parole. After leaving the Public Defender’s Office, Phil ran his own small firm in West Palm Beach for a few years before leaving for more tropical climes. During his time in Palm Beach County, Phil tried dozens of cases to jury verdict, and he had substantial success in his trial practice. Phil secured Not Guilty verdicts for a high percentage of his clients, often preventing his clients from serving the rest of their lives in prison. Additionally, Phil has extensive practice drafting and arguing adversarial motions, the outcomes of which often have led to his clients’ cases being dismissed or resolved in his clients’ favor.
Phil closed down his small firm in 2018 and moved to Key West to live a simpler life for a while. He took three years off from practicing law, and he focused his time on the ocean, which is far and away his number one passion. During this time, he spent his days working as a kayak tour guide, fishing, spear-fishing, lobstering, and scuba diving. In 2021, Phil reentered the legal field as an associate attorney for a criminal defense firm in Key West. In December 2023, Phil joined the Law Offices of Robert David Malove to handle the Firm’s cases in the Florida Keys.
