Matt DePietro graduated from Ave Maria Law School in 2022. He attended law school with the intention of practicing criminal law. At Ave, he was awarded the Cardinal Newman Scholarship, as well as the Cali Future Excellence Award in both Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure. During his 2L year he served as an Associate Editor for the Law Review and in his 3L year, served as the Executive Articles Editor. While in law school Matt also worked as an intern for the Public Defenders Office in Lee and Collier county.
After passing the Florida bar Matt began serving as an Assistant Public Defender in Lee County. There he had experience representing clients at both the misdemeanor and felony level. At the public defenders Matt developed a strong interest in DUI defense. Additionally, while serving as a public defender Matt successfully tried a variety of cases including, but not limited to; battery, theft, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, DUI, aggravated stalking, flee and elude, and resisting with violence. He also has experience negotiating plea bargains, representing clients accused of violating probation, writing and arguing motions, and representing clients involved in domestic disputes. Matt is a strong believer in defending the accused and upholding their rights under the constitution.
